This is Johnny Casanova, Savages keyboard player who joined The Savages in 1995 following meeting with David at a festival at Donnington (you might wish to correct your records). I played with Dvid until the end, sometime with Carlo Little's All Stars as david had not worked as much with The Savages for certain reasons we know about - this was Anji, Jack and Tony. The Savages with these players did continue to play without Sutch, and I joined them when I could, and following the death of Sutch and Tony, The Savages comprised Anji, Jack, myself and Nicky Simper. Many have thought they had been Savages when in a pickup band for David, however, it was always known by those around david who the 'official' line-up was, and that goes today. it is 50 years of the savages this year and plans are afoot. the savages are 'the spiritual home of rock and roll' whose heritage is second to none in the history of rock and roll. whatever David's shortcomings, he jnew a good musician when he heard one, and he would ensure he had the best available behind him - and that has been born out over the years. to all who were there...once a savage, always a savage. salute

Re the early 1970"s line up"s.
Rock Rebellion from the black country had a solid year with dave from sometime in 1972 into 1973, going out under a seperate contract to dave on the same gig.
I can vouch for this having been to many gigs featuring this line up at that time.
I saw ronnie, pete and stuart taylor at the top rank hanley on a small tour. The main band was Rock Rebellion on the heavy side but one of the best rock and roll bands i have ever seen and did blow the wonderful original guys away i"m afraid, Dave then teamed up with them. Iv"e been pro myself and seen a lot of bands so i do recognise the business when i see it.

This is Elaine, one time partner of Austin Danks who was part of the The Savages line up until he died in 2000. He played with Dave Sutch (Lead Vocals)
• Steve Carter (Lead Guitar)
• Dave Savage (Rhythm Guitar)
• Kevin Tarbuck (Bass)
• Rob Staniforth (Drums) "Stan Sledgehammer
They did the Northern gigs and once entertained, on stage, Cynthia Payne (AKA Madam Cyn).

Since he may be too modest to mention it, to add to the info - my mate 'Steve I' told me stories about his time as a roadie with DSutch and co, and a few other bands and artists eg Proby, in-between hanging around Old Compton St, small acting jobs, etc in early and mid 60s. Said eg that PJP sacked him for 'trying to take over the act'!

For a balanced argument, I would say that the last band Sutch played with, and the original band, are both the real savages. Remember that the original members would not do it for any less than a lot of money, and Sutch stayed with the last band for a long time.. what was it a decade? In a fair and equitable world, everyone is given credit.

Hello, I am the same poster as the poster above (anonymous). I would please like this post and my last post removed. It isn't really my business and my opinion isn't really that important. It was inappropriate for me to make the comment.
Thanks.

The sax player from 1972 called Bob? was a guy called Bob (Robert) Hardy. Now lives in Canada, raises money for charity like it's going out of fashion after surviving leukaemia amongst many other things. https://www.bobhardythewalkerrunner.com/

Had the pleasure of working with him for 7 years and still keep in touch.
